Life in this world is not perfect, as we all know. Many challenges in our relationships, jobs, family, and spiritual issues can weigh us down. This is where counseling can be very effective, whether you’re a child or someone in their latter years. All of us at some point in time have needed professional, non-judgmental guidance to work our way through this maze of life. I offer each client an unconditional, loving environment to explore whatever stressors or issues you may face. As my client, you will be given a treatment plan that is catered for the outcomes you desire and to work towards the life that you have envisioned.
Qualifications & Experience
I received a Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling from Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky, with internships at the University of Kentucky Veterans’ Hospital and Asbury College Counseling Center. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Performance and Sports Studies from the University of Tennessee. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and also certified in Equine Therapy. I have 25 years of experience in counseling and ministry within multiple settings and across various, diverse cultures with a majority of my experience having positive solution-focused therapy particularly with those dealing with trauma, abuse, and marriage and family issues. I also have extensive experience working with childhood disorders such as ADHD, anxiety, and academic issues.
My Call to Christian Counseling
Just before my college graduation, I was accepted into a Master’s program to work with handicapped children. During that season, I lived in a home for teenage girls, half of whom were pregnant at the time. Several friends encouraged me to become a counselor, but I thought I was supposed to pursue a career with handicapped children. Then one day God shifted my direction by showing me that emotional difficulties can be just as damaging as physical disabilities. I changed course and applied instead to receive my Master’s in clinical counseling. God opened the door, and I haven’t looked back.
More About Me/On a Personal Note
I have been married more than 20 years to a wonderful husband. I have 6 children, ages 11 to 20. I love cooking, playing guitar and singing, gardening, hiking, riding horses, being around animals, and doing mission work. Because of having experienced loss in my life as well as coming from a family with divorced parents, those circumstances have allotted me to have more personal empathy with my clients.
